The Lebanese National Commission organized in cooperation with the Syrian Libraries and Documentation Association a virtual seminar on “Information Society in Times of Crisis”, which was also broadcasted live on its Facebook page, with the participation of heads of library and information societies, academic professors and information science experts from Egypt, Syria, Bahrain, Oman, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon.
The seminar opened with welcome speeches by the Secretary General of the Lebanese National Commission Dr. Tala Zein, and the President of the Syrian Libraries and Documentation Association Dr. Issa Al-Assafin.
Interventions focused on 3 main themes, and shed the light on the various difficulties and challenges that information society in the Arab world face, in terms of human resources and technologies:
- Covid-19 pandemic and its impact on information society
- Repercussions of the pandemic on information society
- Proposed solutions and crisis management strategies.
