LBBY Public School Rehabilitation Project

For years now, Lebanon has been assailed by compounded crises specifically in the past three years, whether economically or financially and, lastly, the explosion at the Port of Beirut on August 4, 2020. The Lebanese public schools as a result have been affected drastically; knowing that these schools are very essential at such unstable times, for the economic situation is causing a lot of parents to reconsider putting their children in public school. In addition, libraries serve an important role in providing people with trustworthy information. They support and enable the literacy development and knowledge acquisition. And the more a library is supplied with a variety of books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs, and manuscripts; the more it encompasses information. School libraries serve small, but diverse, population which are children which makes it of more value especially that it targets different age groups. By partnering with UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in Beirut, our mission as the Lebanese Board on Books for Young people, that is to promote reading and connection between children and books was achieved, by initiating a program that aims to help renovate damaged libraries at public schools and enhance them with needed books, in addition to developing a training program with the help of Assabil, that trains chosen teachers and librarians on library management as well as inclusion of books in their curriculum.. In addition to providing different schools with Arabic books bought from different publishers, as well as either English books donated from IBBY Canada and Book Aid International, or French books from COBIAC (Collectif De Bibliothecaires Et Intervenant En Action Cuturale), and the BNF (Bibliotheque Nationale De France) depending on whether the school follows an Arabic/English or Arabic/ French curriculum.
