LBBY Accomplishments

LBBY (Lebanese Board on Books for Young People) has achieved remarkable strides in advancing literacy and renovating Lebanese public school libraries. The organization’s impactful initiatives along with the collaboration with UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in Lebanon, have successfully assisted libraries in 30 public schools across Lebanon, providing not only high-quality books but also essential renovations to enhance the learning environment to at least half of these libraries. Notably, LBBY’s commitment extends to NGOs dedicated to underprivileged children and refugees, including “Jusoor” and “Tahaddi,” all achieved through a collaborative effort with the Yamada Fund. LBBY has facilitated the provision of books from BOOK AID International and essential renovations to these organizations and schools, fostering a deeper connection between children and literature. To add LBBY has executed a comprehensive training program for teachers and librarians, encompassing library management, book utilization, filing systems, and bibliotherapy. Through the combined efforts of IBBY (Crisis fund and Yamada fund), UNESCO (for schools), BOOK AID International, and Assabil, LBBY was able to make a meaningful and lasting contribution to education and literacy.

In keeping with their mission to improve children’s relationships with books, LBBY chose to highlight and focus on underprivileged children in order to highlight those who were unable to enroll in school, receive the proper education, or even have the opportunity to be exposed to a wide range of books because they were unable to register.
