Following its dedication to empowering communities by fostering conflict-sensitive and gender-inclusive strategies, Dawaer collaborated with UNDP under its program “Mechanisms for Stability and Resilience” and launched an initiative to combat fake news and hate speech.
The first phase enabled 40 local influencers in ten Lebanese villages to confront media biases and misinformation, fostering an environment of acceptance and conflict resolution. The following phase focused on training 51 journalism students, which led to the development of Sawab, a dedicated fact-checking platform.
The third phase, which is currently underway, intensively trains 91 young journalism enthusiasts in fact-checking and hate speech detection, with the goal of empowering them to be proficient fact checkers and catalysts for positive community change. This effort demonstrates Dawaer’s commitment to not only engage participants but also support their personal and professional development, emphasizing a holistic approach to growth and empowerment.
