Science Cafés “Natural Disaster Prevention”

The Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO partnered with the National Council for Scientific Research (CNRS), to launch science cafés in universities, intended to bring young people together with professional scientists to discuss newsworthy topics in the field, in a casual and relaxing setting such as the university cafeteria. The aim of the Science Café is to make science more relevant, simple and important, as well as to feature engaging conversations and driven discussions between experts and students about different scientific discoveries and technologies that fascinate and enlighten us.

Four science cafés have been organized, addressing the topic of “Natural Disaster Prevention”: at the American University of Science and Technology (AUST) – Achrafieh (16/10/2018), at Jinan University – Tripoli (17/11/2018), at the Lebanese International University – Al Khyara (25/2/2019), and at Beirut Arab University – Debbieh (13/3/2019). The first two were animated by Dr. Chadi Abdallah (Researcher – Remote Sensing Centre) and Dr. Rachid Jomaa (Assistant Researcher – Geophysics Centre), while the latter were animated by Dr. Chadi Abdallah and Dr. Marlene Brax (Director – Geophysics Centre).
