Workshops for ASPnet Schools
In the framework of the “Media Education in Times of Crisis” Project, targeting school teachers and students, journalism professors and students in universities, media clubs and journalists, the Lebanese National Commission, in collaboration with the Francophone Association of Journalism (AFEJ), organized two workshops for Professors of Journalism.
The project was elaborated and granted emergency assistance through UNESCO Participation Programme, following the horrific Beirut Blast on August 4, 2020, and in response to the accompanying media context which included a lot of violence, hate speech, disinformation and the spread of fake news, all of which were traumatic for individuals and destabilizing for society in general. Hence, the workshops aim at developing critical thinking and an active processing of information not just passive reception of that information to detect fake news, as well as developing journalistic skills.
The workshops, organized respectively on 7-8 May, 21-22 May, 28-29 May and 4-5 June at the Radisson Blu Hotel – Verdun, targeted students and teachers from the following ASPnet schools: Grand Lycée Franco-Libanais de Beyrouth; Al-Kawthar School – Beirut; Ahliah School – Beirut; Lycée Alphonse De Lamartine – Tripoli; Modern Institution of Lebanon – Fanar; Central College – Jounieh; Saint Roch School – Kleiat; Collège des Sœurs des Saints Cœurs – Bauchrieh; Mekhitarist Fathers School; Rafic Hariri High School – Saida; Imam Sadr Foundation – Tyre; and Mostafa Shomran High School – Saida.
