Conference on “Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development” and Award Ceremony on ‎‎“Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development: A Message from Lebanon to the World” ‎‎(UNESCO Office, 20/10/2015)‎

The Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO and the UNESCO Regional Office in Beirut organized a ‎conference on “Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development”, in the framework of “Dialogue/ Hawer” ‎programme, followed by an award ceremony for the winners of the national competition on “Cultural ‎diversity for dialogue and development: a Message from Lebanon to the world”. ‎
After the national anthem, Dr. Hegazi Idris, representing the Director of UNESCO Regional Office in Beirut ‎Dr. Hamed Al Hammami, defined Beirut as the city of diversity, dialogue and values, emphasizing on the ‎importance of this experience to all students in learning the cultural values of dialogue, in a practical rather ‎than theoretical way. ‎
In her speech, Secretary General of the Lebanese National Commission Dr. Zahida Darwiche Jabbour ‎considered diversity as an inherent trait to the world around us. Diversity means difference, and difference ‎doesn’t have to be a source of dispute. Instead, it is a key factor for interaction among the youth, which ‎contributes to the development of societies.  ‎

In his lecture entitled “Cultural diversity for Dialogue and Development”, the Senior Adviser for the UNESCO ‎program on dialogue and peace in the Arab region, former minister Dr. Selim El-Sayegh, noted that ‎respect for diversity is to respect the right to be different, which is a necessity in our Lebanese society. ‎Lebanon represents cultural diversity. ‎

Novelist Nermin Khansa, and chairwoman of the Cultural Committee of the Arab Cultural Club, concluded ‎with her speech as jury member, followed by the announcement of the winners and the distribution of ‎prizes: ‎
