Under the patronage of the Minister of Tourism, H.E. Mr. Michel Pharaon, the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO organized, in collaboration with the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), a workshop for tour guides in the Arab world on the environmental and cultural dimensions of heritage, from July 28-30, 2015, at Le Commodore Hotel – Hamra.
The opening session included speeches from the Secretary General of the Lebanese National Commission Prof. Zahida Darwiche Jabbour, the representative of ISESCO Dr. Soada Maoulainin from the Culture and Communication Directorate, and the Director General of the Ministry of Tourism Mrs. Nada Sardouk.
The main aim of the workshop was to highlight tourism in general and cultural tourism in particular, in the promotion of dialogue and cultural exchanges between nations and people, and to bring together tour guides from the following countries: Jordan, Morocco, Egypt, Palestine, Tunisia and Lebanon, given their role in cultural tourism and ecotourism.
The discussions resulted in several recommendations for tourism on the one hand and for tour guides on the other.
