The Secretary General, being the Head of the ALF Lebanese National Network participated in the Anna Lindh Mediterranean Forum organized by the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures, in collaboration with the Marseille-Provence 2013, the body in charge of European Capital of Culture. Held under the banner ‘Citizens for the Mediterranean’, the Forum was held between 4-7 April, at The Pharo Palace overlooking the Vieux-Port and the Bay of Marseille, and brought together 1000 civil society organizations from 43 countries, and opened a space for interaction, exchange and debate of the top issues facing the Euro-Med region today, with concrete plans for a better partnership across the region.
Representatives of 25 civil society organizations in Lebanon attended the Forum, and participated in either the workshops or the presentations of good practices. As for the Secretary General, Dr. Zahida Darwiche Jabbour, she presided a session in the strategic debates theme on “how to promote cultural diversity and common values, presented a working paper under the title: "Do we all live in the Mediterranean?", and gave the speech of the civil society organizations during the official dinner held by the President of the Regional Representative Council of the European Commission in the presence of the President of the Anna Lindh Foundation and members of the board of governors and heads of networks. She also participated in the Agora – Strategic Debates around intercultural and interreligious diversity and dialogue; as well as in the Medina – Good Practice sessions that aimed at exchanging experience, tools and approaches on implemented projects among practitioners from European and Arab civil society organizations.
The Secretary General, as the Head of the Lebanese National Network for the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures, participated in the regional conference, organized by the Economic and Social Council in Lebanon in collaboration with the Economic and Social Council in Spain, in the framework of the TRESMED program, where she presented the ALF initiative "Believe in Dialogue, Act for Citizenship", which aims at promoting intercultural dialogue and its relationship with democracy, active and participatory citizenship and human rights in the Euromed region.
In the framework of the Anna Lindh Foundation regional programme “Citizens for Dialogue”, the coordinator of the Lebanese network Mr. Paul El Amil participated in the meeting on “Empowering Civil Society for Citizenship”, which was organized by the Anna Lindh Foundation in cooperation with the Head of the Jordanian Network (the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies).
The meeting brought together 22 participants from the Jordanian network, 12 participants from the Lebanese network and a representative for the Syrian network for Human Rights, as well as representatives for the Italian association “Teatro Valle” – winner of the 2012 Euro-Med Award for Dialogue, and experts from Spain, England, Tunisia and Jordan.
The Secretary General participated in the Anna Lindh Foundation conference entitled “Women’s Contributions for Dialogue and Change”, and held in Casa Blanca, between November 22-25. This conference was one of the main preparatory meetings for the Anna Lindh Mediterranean Forum, which will take place in Marseilles from 4 to 7 April 2013.
The conference addressed three main themes: intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and democracy, intercultural dialogue and development; and was attended by representatives of networks of Anna Lindh Foundation from 43 countries, by civil society institutions, experts and academics.
The Secretary General took part in the three sessions on intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity, and also had a contribution in the session entitled “the cultural dimension of gender stereotypes”.
The Secretary General participated, as the Head of the national network of Anna Lindh Foundation, in the eleventh meeting of head of national networks held in Cyprus, from 9 to 11 November 2012. The meeting brought together heads of European and Mediterranean networks and formed a space for dialogue and exchange of experiences and expertise, in an effort to promote values of peace and citizenship through civil society institutions. During the meeting, Lebanon was named a member of the panel of judges for the 2013 Euro-Med Award for Dialogue between Cultures. Also, the meeting was an opportunity for the Anna Lindh Foundation to launch its new visual identity and logo, which was designed by Rana Abou Rjeily from the Lebanese design company Layerhead.
