The National Commission, being the Head of the Lebanese National Network for Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the dialogue between cultures, held a meeting for the network members, to discuss the foundation’s plan of action for the year 2009-2011, the triennial program for the development of National Networks, the action and development plan of the Lebanese Network, as well as joint projects to be submitted to ALF for support, in the framework of the ALF Call for proposals.
The meeting was held and chaired by Mrs. Salwa Saniora Baassiri, head of the Lebanese Network, on the occasion of the visit to Lebanon of Mr. Andreu Claret, executive director of the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the dialogue between cultures. Among the members present were, Rev. Dr. Riad Jarjour, representing the Forum of Development, Culture and Dialogue; Mrs. Khadija Lakkis, from Lebanon Euro-Med group; Mr. and Mrs. Mustafa Adib, from CESMO; and Ms. Rima Maroun, representing Collective Kahraba. Discussions focused on the Foundation’s triennial program on large scale projects, aiming at reinforcing its role as a facilitator for good partnership and enhance its visibility; around the envisaged observatory to monitor the initiatives within the context of respect for diversity in each country; and a Think Tank to analyze and enhance awareness regarding the missions of the Foundation. Also discussed were the respective roles of youth as main targets and tools for change, of media in enhancing the visibility of the Foundation in the region, and that of arts in promoting intercultural dialogue.
The meeting was held following the establishment of the national network’s statutes, and the creation of an executive bureau, composed of 5 members of the network. The meetings was chaired by the Secretary General, being the Head of Network; and were present Mr. Antoine Messara, representative of the Lebanon in the advisory council for ALF; Ms. Rima Maroun, winner of the Euro-Med award for 2008; and Mrs. Khadija Lakkis. The discussion focused on future plans for the Lebanese network in terms of enhancing its visibility at a national level, and raising awareness regarding the values and mission of the Foundation. The meeting proposed a program of four collective activities to be acted upon by the Lebanese network.
The meeting was organized by the National Commission, being the Head of Network, within the context of the Network support scheme, to discuss the statutes of the national network, and the draft of development and action plans for the years 2009-2011. The discussion also centered around the importance of network coordination, communication among the network members, common vision and proposed activities for the network; as well as the creation of an executive bureau to be composed of 5 network members, views regarding membership in the network by profit seeking organization and those with foreign nationality, and the financial policy of the national network.
The meeting was organized to discuss the 1001 actions campaign launched by the Foundation on the occasion of the European year for intercultural dialogue, with the participation of 18 out of 49 network members. Members were briefed about the network activities during 2007; the political message of the Foundation as adopted during the Heads of Networks meeting in Cairo; and the 1001 actions campaign. Discussions focused on the recent administrative restructuring of the Foundation, and the reinforcement of the coordination role assumed by the Head of Network in the network activities, as well as in the relation with the other ALF networks and ALF secretariat.
