The Secretary General participated in the seminar organized by the Antelias Cultural Movement and Apostles College – Jounieh, on the book by the poet Antoine Raad “Lebanon, poems and pictures”, published in four languages: Arabic, French, English and Spanish.
The Secretary General, who translated the book into French, put the emphasis in her speech, on its literary and aesthetic value, and on its unique and universal quality thanks to the dialogue between the poem and the picture, as well as the dialogue between languages, which make it similar to Lebanon in its unity despite the diversity, where components are distinguished not to differentiate, but rather to enrich and complement each other.
Participating in the seminar on “Tripoli, City of Cultural Tourism”, organized by the Arab Centre for Cultural Development and Manar University of Tripoli, the Secretary General noted that tourism development would not have been achieved without human development, emphasizing the need to fight the poverty and ignorance faced by the inhabitants of the ancient city, as well as the need to raise their awareness regarding the cultural and historical value of their city.
On the occasion of the publication of the complete Poetical Works of Saba Zreik, the Secretary General, Prof. Zahida Darwiche Jabbour participated in the round table organized by the Lebanese Association for encouraging reading and promoting culture of dialogue and Beit el Fann. She highlighted the socio-historical and literary significance of the Poetical Works, which, according to her, can be considered as a reference document from the end of the Ottoman Empire to the eve of the Lebanese war in 1975, translating through its lyrical language, a high sensitivity, a profound national commitment and a strong attachment to the values of citizenships, as well as open-mindedness, an acute sense of equity and rebellion against injustice and ignorance.
The Secretary General participated in the round table organized by the Russian Cultural Center and Dar Nelson publishing house, around the book by Dr. Zinat Bitar “Golden Age of the Russian Poetry”, which offers the readers for the first time in Arabic, poems of many Russian poets that were banned by the Soviet regime. In her speech, Dr. Zahida Darwiche Jabbour noted that the book contributes to the rapprochement of both Russian and Arab cultures, and to a better understanding of the similarities between the two.
During the conference at ESA under the theme “Dialogue of Cultures, Culture of Dialogues”, organized by l’Agence universitaire de la Francophonie, in collaboration with UNESCO Regional Office in Beirut, the Secretary General moderated a panel discussion on gender equality, with the participation of Dr. Fadia Kiwan, Representative of the President of the Republic before la Francophonie and Director of the Political Sciences Institute at Saint-Joseph University (USJ), Dr. Wajeeha Al-Baharna, President of the Bahrein Women Society, Mrs. Maysoun Chehab, Basic Education Programme Advisor at UNESCO, and Mrs. Ghida Anani, President of ABAAD Resource Center for Gender Equality.
The Secretary General, representing the Director General of ALECSO Prof. Abdallah Mohareb, attended the launching ceremony of the "Arab Digital Content" project, organized by the Arab Thought Foundation. In her speech, she emphasized the complementary relationship between the Arab digital observatory and the Arab digital content, two initiatives developed by the Foundation that meet a real need, at a time when technological innovations provide opportunities for cultures that embrace them, and threaten to marginalize the cultures that fail to.
